He held up to 12 positions simultaneously, including at one point New York City Parks Commissioner, head of the New York City Planning Commission, Chairman of the New York State Power Authority, the Long Island State Park and New York State Parks Commissions, and the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority. Moses held political power on a scale that’s unimaginable today. In Moses’ career, he helped bring the United Nations to New York, built Jones Beach, 416 miles of parkways, 658 playgrounds in the city, millions of acres of state parklands, the Brooklyn Battery and Queens Midtown Tunnels, vast amounts of public housing and the Verrazano Narrows, Whitestone, Throgs Neck, and Triborough Bridges. ![]()
